FAIR TO CLOUDY
CONDITIONS TO IMPROVE
The forecast is for variable and mainly light to moderate winds. The weather is likely to be fair to cloudy, but with scattered local rain more especially over the SoutK Island, conditions improving gradually. Temperatures will bo moderate. Tho depression which was responsible for l the strong northwesterly yesterday has' practically filled up, and: this morning barometers -were again high over New Zealand. Bain has fallen in the western arid far southern portions of the South. Island, and at 9 a.m. today it was raining also at Timaru and Oamarn, but elsewhere tho weather has been fair-to -fine and mild.
. Yesterday very warm temperatures were associated with, the north-westerly winds in the eastern districts, but by this morning the -wind directons hadibecome very variable^over the Dominion.

Christchurcn had a. hot sunny day with a strong north-west wind.
