HUTT VALLEY, CLUB
The annual meeting of the Hutt Valley Hockey Club was attended by a large number of members. The chairman (Mr. E. S. Innes) spoke briefly on the results of the activities of the preceding season, and after congratulating the club on its sound ' financial position, expressed the wish that the forthcoming season would be equally satisfactory, and that at least one grade championship would be brought to the valley by the club. Among the officers elected for the ensuing season. were ; Mr. H. G. Teagle, patron; Mr. E. S. Innes, president: Mr. h. V. Phillips, hon. secretary; Mr. N. O. Maitland, hon. treasurer; Mr. J. M. Ross, club captain. The congratulations of the club were extended to Messrs. N. C. Smallwood and M. K. Fleet, who gained representative honours in senior and junior grades- respectively. Eulogistic reference was made to the work done by the retiring club captain, Mr. F. Stoupe, who had held that post for the past two seasons, and had been largely responsible for the smooth running: of the club during that period.
The retiring treasurer, Mr. S. J. Diamond, was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for the keen interest he had shown in the work, and for the efficient manner in which he had kept the club's books. It -was regretted that "Mr. J. D. Gray was unable to carry on his duties as secretary, and he was thanked for the work he had done during his term of office. ■ '
■ A,pleasing feature of last year's activi-ties-was > a friendly game played between tne'senior A team arid a team of. old club players, who'-gave a bright exhibition of hockey and defeated the present players after a hard tussle. Sir. F. Stoupe donated a cup for annual competition between old and present players, rind an interesting match is sure to eventuate each season. ■ '
Messrs. H. Bishop, W. Faber, and P Easton were elected to membership of the club, which is anticipating a good season and is confident of annexing at "least one grade championship. . ' '",
Several meetings of the "Unemployed Ex-Servicemen's League will' be,held next week in various districts, and • a meeting is called by advertisement in this issue for next Thursday evening at St. Thomas's Hall, Newtown.
