NOVEL ENTERPRISE

HARMONIC SOCIETY.

That there is to be no lack of enter-

prise on the part of local musical bodies . has already been shown by the early start made by the Symphony Orchestra, and now comes advice that the Wellington ? c Harmonic Society, under the conductorship of Mr. H. Temple White, has two am- a, bitious projects well under way foi the *, coming season. The first "Harmonic" subscription conceit (in the large Town _ _all on May 6) will mark the first appearance in the North Island of the Dtilliant and popular Dunedin contralto, Mary Pratt. The second, and greater, enterprise projected by the Harmonic Society, is somethins new to the entire Southern Hemisphere. It is to be a three night season, in the Grand Opera House, of the new dramatised version of Mendelssohn's "Elijah," the plans lor which have been in preparation for months past, and which was in fact intended for last season For this purpose the score of "Elijah" has undergone revision and the work has been drafted into eight spectacular scenes, with full costuming and stage action. A full professional orchestra is to be employed, and no expense is to be spared in making the entire production one of the greatest musical and dramatic undertakings that Wellington has yet seen. "Further information regarding this ambitious project will be available later; the dates of performance will most likely be late in July.
