HEALTH OF CHILDREN
AFTER CARE ASSOCIATION
Members of the After Care Association who attended the annual meeting held yesterday afternoon in the Clyde Quay schoolroom were interested in a talk on the Auckland Sunshine School, given by Mrs. Zahara. The speaker' who is now resident in Wellington, described the activities and workings of the school, and spoke in glowing terms of the work accomplished in this connection by the late Mrs.-Fernier, At the conclusion of her address the speaker was called upon to answer several questions from interested listeners. A vote of thanks moved by the president (Mrs. E. J. Moore), who occupied the chair, was carried. The annual Teport and the balancesheet^ which showed a satisfactory financial position, were read and adopted.
The annual report, stated that the year had been a very quiet one, the Children's Club being the main activity. The attendance continued to maintain an average of 12 to 13 children each afternoon the club -was open. Several children had been removed to
institutions suitable for their special requirements. During the year each of the older girls had made an article of clothing which received special commendation when exhibited at the end of the year, the material having been supplied by the executive.
Special thanks were due to the McCarthy Trust fund for a donation of £10, also to the Kotary Club for milk supplied to the club children and to the children of Clyde Quay special classes. The executive also appreciated the use of the hall from the Spiritualist Church. Many families connected with the special classes and club had been assisted by donations of clothing, etc., such clothing being altered when necessary by the Mayoress's Unemployment workroom. _ As usual, the report continued, tram tickets had been provided for necessitous cases, a special effort to raise funds having been made in the form of a jumble sale, at which the sum of £7 9s had been realised.
Much regret had been felt at the resignation, through illness, of the president (Mrs. H. Hadfield). Mrs. E. J. Moore had been appointed in her place.
The association had donated £1 Is to the Clyde Quay special classes to provide for a picnic, which had been held on December 7.
The executive wished to thank Mrs. Dick for her assistance at thessl Children's Club and to the auditor (Mr. Mclntosh), who had given voluntary service to the association.
