DEMAND FOR LAMB
IMPROVES
The Bank of New Zealand, produce department, has received the following advice from its London office as at close of business this week:—'-The market for wether mutton is dull, with a downward tendency. .The^ market for ewes, is. steady. The demand and prices for lambs are improving. There is a good demand for light weights. The market for beef is quiet and unchanged. Wethers, light- 4" l-8d to 4%d per lb, heavy 3d to 4d; ewes, 2V>d to 3 5-8 d; lambs, 2's 5%d to 5%d, B's 4M to 4%d, 4's 4 3-8 dto 4 5-Bd, seconds 5d to 5%d; ox hinds 3Ud to 3%d, fores 2%d to a^d^ cow hinds 2%d to'3d, fores 2%d to
Messrs. Levin an C 0.,. Ltd., have ,re ceived the following cable from their London agents, dated March 24:—"Compared with last week's quotations Down lamb 28-361b Hd per lb higher;" crossbred, lamb 28-361b, 3-8 d per lb higher; 36-421b, l-8d per lb higher. Second quality lamb 3-8 d per lb higher; best wethers, under 641b l-8d per lb lower. The market for prime and second quality lamb is firm, particularly for light-weights. The market for mutton is quiet, and shows a weakening tendency."
