CARTERTON, This Day.

A handsome silver shield has been presented by the Jenkins family to. the United District Eire Brigades' Association for competition at the association's L an? demonstrations. The v shield, Which, is to be known as the Jenkins Memorial Shield, is to be competed for for the first time at the Easter demonstration to be held at Carterton. The shield is a memorial to the late Mr. Thomas Jenkins, a former superintendent of the Masterton Eire Brigade, and later chairman of the Masterton Fire Board. The Wairarapa South County Council decided at its monthly meeting on Thursday to proceed with the .erection of bridges over Anderson's Creek and' the Pahao River, m the Maungariki Riding. The following nominations have been received for the Board of Directors of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society for the ensuing term:—Chief, Mr. T. S. Arcus; president, Mr. D. A. Pickering; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. W. J. Campbell and J. W. Colquhoun; treasurer, Mr. A. G. Corskiedirectors, Messrs. H. MacKenzie Douglas A. Donald, J W. Henderson, A. J. Skjellerup, E. D. McLachlan,-J. J. Hunter, W. E. Knott, G. Molmio, J. V. Gordon, W. G. Milne, T. V. Caverhfll, L. D. Cameron, M.S. Mackay, Dr. J. C. Forsyth, Past-president.—ln accordance with the rules, Mr. J. A. Kerslake, as,past-presi-dent, becomes a member of the board exofflcio.
