FLOATING DOCK
ITS VALUE PROVED
Unable to anticipate the results of the working of the floating dock ■at the previous annual meeting-, the chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board (Mr. C. J. B. Norwood) stated at last night's annual meeting of the board that he was pleased now to be ablo to record that, although tho dock had been in operation only six months of the year under review,' it had been used on fourteen occasions, mostly for clean*ing and painting. On at least throe occasions, moreover, the dock was able to provide the means for assisting vessels which had boen docked on account of the damage they had sustained. Its valuo to Wellington could, not be wholly taken from its own financial returns, as the money spent in Wellington, apart from dock dues during its use, had been considerable.
No payment had been made during the year to the dock and special equipment reserve fund, but an amount of £2661 had been provided for the dock replacement fund. ; i
