LOCAL BODIES AND
EXCHANGE
(To the Editor.) ."'-": Sir,—ls any concerted action being taken by the local bodies in New Zealand to induce the Government to make good the heavy imposition on ratepayers arising from the adoption of the high exchange policy? Our, Government has come to the rescue ot the stock and station agents and farmers. Why should the local bodies (in other words the ratepayers) be penalised? The Mayor of Wellington was very emphatic in, his condemnation of this injustice. Will he take stfeps to translate his words into action? ' I suggest that a large saving could be effected by an exhaustive inquiry into the services given by Government Departments to the farming community, and by curtailing the subsidies. . The cry is for economy. -Is it too much to hope that members of. Parliament will press this matter home?—l am, etc.," JUSTICE.
