INCOME TAX
(To the Editor.) Sir,—The Prime Minister is reported as having said that apart from some adjustments there would be no alteration in the income tax. this session. It is hoped that when the adjustments are being considered the fairness of allowing a wife an exemption against her husband's income, if she has no income of her own, will be considered; This is done in some other countries. Any loss could be made up (with some to spare) in specially taxing bachelors, allowing them, say, an exemption up to £150, or charging a surtax. The special taxing of bachelors was referred to in the Press last year, but it was not done. —I am, etc., MARRIED.
