, LADIES1 AUXILIARY
"At the beginning of, the year, in response to circulars sent ..out by the committee, a number of schools undertook to make up materials for the home parcel," states the annual report of the Ladies' AuxiliaTy of tho Wellington branch of the Navy League presented at the annual meeting today. . These schools were the Wellington Girls' College, Wellington East, Brooklyn, Karori, and Palmers-ton North. Mrs. James Findlay presided at the meeting. The report stated that a letter had been received from the secretary of the Nayy League expressing great appreciation of tho parcels sent to them in tho past, but showing that at present thero had been difficulty in distributing the garments suitably. It had been decided therefore to discontinue , sending the home parcel and to distribute the clothes and any others that could bo collected among local ex-service men who appealed to the office for help. Soveral members of the committee had devoted one morning a week +0 this work. . ; ' . During tho year resignations were received with regret from Mosdames Kirk and Luke. -Mrs. Kirkcaldie had for some time been unable to attend and' had asked to be relieved of tho office of treasurer. Mrs. Finch had consented to undertake the office again. Tho committee welcomed the addition of Mesdames Morton Paterson and Whatley. , ■ V It was stated that the girls' branch, which had changed its name to "Junior Branch," had done much useful work during tho year, a particularly successful, effort being a skating party which had realised £10. An "at homo" had been given to welcome Commodore Fischer Burges Watgon, D.5.0., and tain C. Sinclair-Thompson, and also to bid farewell to Admiral Geoffrey Blake and Paymaster-Commander Webster. A very successful ball had been held at Kirkcaldie and Stains, Commodoro Burges Watson and officers of H.M.S. Diomede being the guests of honour. The success of this ball had been due largely to the combined efforts of the three committees-. A jumble sale held during the year had produced £11 14s. Thanks were expressed to the honorary auditor, Mr. J. L. Areus, to Mrs. Brown for hospitality arid encouragement to members of the junior branch, and to the Press. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mrs. Jamea Findlay; vice-presidents, Mesdames Larnaeh and Tripp; treasurer, Mrs. C. E. Pinch; committee, Mesdames J. Fhidlay, Larnach, L. Tripp, Adams, Keid, E. K. Kirkcaldie, McEvody, Middleton, Perry, Addison, Finch, Brown, Moore, P. Marshall, Morton' Paterson, H. Whatley, Crawford Johnson, Walker, and Miss Edwin.
