LATE SPORTING

GN TRENTHAM TRACKS

GOLDEN HORN'S FAST HALF

NORMANDY SPEEDING UP

(By "Rangatira.") With few Trentham. horses likely to be racing prior to the Masterton Meeting nest month, there is little activity on the tracks at present, most o£ the work being o£ a routine nature. The tracks are in good order, with the plough being preferred, as the going on the grass is becoming very hard. The centre's'visitors to Blenheim have returned and were' exercised only this morning. Lyrical and Palace were winners for D. McCauley on the trip, and Purse for H. Pritckard. Jjyrical's' success in the Marlborough Cup was her fourth since she. was purchased cheaply from Mr. V. Riddiford by Mr. C. Cunningham early in the season, and it finally removes her from back class. S. J. Reid moved down from New Plymouth to Wanganui today with Mr. Biddiford's three horses, Eminent, Clangor, and Might, and the trio will run at Wanganui this week. Eminent was also still a hack before his Taranaki successes last week, but he has now left the class He is considered .to be specially well in at Wanganui with a rehandicap taking his weight only to 7.13, 31b less than he carried in his second New Plymouth win last Saturday. It is understood that Voitre will again be on him. Autopay arrived back from the south this morning. His future programme is not yet definite. ' " . The most attractive piece of -work at Trentham this morning was done by the three-year-old Golden Horn (E.. Morris), ■who came from behind to beat Quietly (J. Gunn) by a good length at the end of half a mile in 49 4-osee. Golden Horn is still a maiden, but he has the quality, and later on he should win good races. It ' may be remembered that prior to Christmas he was capable of beating Red Sun over a fast seven furlongs. He is to be allowed to take his place in the St. Leger. .-'..,.. . . • - Dole (G. P. Dick) was going easily three parts of a length m front of Pegged Exchange (Morris) at the end of an easy five furlongs in lmin ■ 7 3-Ssec, the last halfmile in 54 4-ssec: • Cape Fair (Dick) and Capetown (Shand) were together throughout six furlongs in lmin 18seo, running home-the last halfmile in 53- 2-ssec; Capetown looks better • than he' has for some time,' and, as last autumn, '- he—may, -strike a winning patch during the next month or so. ■ ■ • Secrecy (Morris) slipped over half amile in 51sec.; She is a big type of filly who may require- a little more age. '.. Melisande (Shand),- one • of Mr.- Kemball's two-year-old Liinbnd fillies, but with whom not much has yet been done, ran half a niile in 55sec. "Epigram (Dick) started off with her, but he was not pushed along, as he has not yet properly recovered -from the. injuries he received in being cast' in his box prior to the Wellington 'Meeting;- ---•' Normandy (N. -S. Jones) and - Sage (Shand) ran the last half-mile of fin.furlongs together in Slsee. It was one of the first trials Normandy has had since resuming after a .couple of months' idleness enforced by a bone 6pavin, and he did his work well. He is big yet, but his trainer hopes jto be able to race him at Masterton. . .\... . . ~ Azure and Cptfesmore were noticed back on the track, but neither was sent out of a canter. ' They will probably be racing again -at- the Wellington Meeting. Cottesmore, who has been suffering from a splint, is big, but should fine dowa with galloping. Most of the other horses in training were out on the tracks, but they were not galloped. Historic is looking well, but he does nothing more than pacing.
