A SEVERE BLOW

PETONE'S ALLOCATION

"It's lamentable," said the Mayor of Petone (Mr. D. McKenzie) at the meeting of the Borough Council last night in reference to the reduction of Petone'a share of the heavy traffic fees from 7.35 per cent, to 5.29 per cent. "It will mean to us a decrease of just on £600. That will give you a fair idea of how our revenue is falling. . . . All these things are severe blows to us, but we'll get through." "That's really getting it in the eye for being careful with our finance," remarked Councillor' V. E. Jacobson. "It's one of the most unfair methods of allocation I've ever heard of." He said he would like a protest.to be made. "It's not the slightest use," said the Mayor. That a protest would not affect the present allocation but might affect a future one was the opinion of Councillor A. Seholefiekl. . The question was referred to the Finance Committee for a report.
