FALL IN RECEIPTS

THE WELLINGTON DISTRICT

As there are almost, four months to go before the end of the heavy traffic licence 'ear in May, it is therefore early to make any detailed forecast, but the indications are, clear enough that the Wellington district returns will be from £2500 to £3000 down- on the receipts for last year. Fees collected by the . City Council (which collects for the whole Wellington district, the fees being divided among the various local bodies according to fixed percentages later) to date amount to £19,400 19s 9d, compared with £21,146 19s 3d for the period up to the end of February last year. Many licences have not been renewed, and it. seems unlikely that in the remaining four months renewals and fresh licences can. make up any leeway.
