STORM AT INVERCARGILL

INVEECABGILL, February 12. After a long, dry spell with a .great deal of sunshine, the week-end in Invercargill was marked by a storm of unusual severity. All outdoor fixtures had to be postponed. Yesterday a strong south-west wind was accompanied by fierce showers of hail and rain, which pounded on the rooftops last night with exceptional vigour. The wind was still very strong today, and there were intermittent showers, one this evening pelting down with great force and sending pedestrians scurrying for shelter. A considerable amount of rain has fallen during the past two days, and it should prove most.beneficial to the province. ■.
