WEATHER MAINLY FINE

The weather forecast is for moderate to strong winds, mainly between west and south-west, but northerly in' parts of the eastern districts, and mi Cook ■ Strait. The weather will still be changeable and cOoL in districts, with a westerly aspect, in the far south, with; some passing showers, but a gradual improvement should take place in the eastern districts, and it will be mainly fine. : .

The Seep depression which has controlled our weather for the past few days \has moved eastward very slowly since Saturday, and barometers are still low over New Zealand; Strong and squally south-westerly winds have ruled at most places, and at east of the ranges, and in Cook Strait, they have been deflected into north-westerlies. Gales are reported from'many places. Although in eastern districts it has been fine and rather warm, the remainder of the country has. had showery weather. Further heavy falls have occurred on the west coast of the South . Island, Arthur's Pass reporting 1.35 inches this morning. The West Coast rivers are still high, and in-Southland sharp hailstorms were experienced on Saturday. Auckland has had fresh westerly winds. The weather was fine on Saturday^ but became showery at night, and passing showers have been experienced since then.

Wellington was extremely favoured in its weather during the week-end. As is usual when the general run of the wind over the Dominion is between west and south-west, brilliantly fine weather, with blue skies, and a cool, dry, and bracing atmosphere prevailed. A fresh to strong north-westerly wind blew throughout. Christchurch also has had' fine weather. A strong north-westerly wind, rising at times to gale force, blew at times, and temperatures have been warm. ']■

At Dunedin the weather has been changeable, and mostly fair, bnt with light showers at times. The wind.was from the south-west, and occasionally strong. . . .
