Blundell (Wellington) 6 for 36 Cleverley (Midland) ...:., 6 for 50 Creole (Kilblrnie) 5 for 51 McCann (Hutt) .' 5 for 68 Judd (Hutt) i for 75 The first round of the local senior cricket championship competition was' concluded on Saturday afternoon, and the results place "Wellington in a commanding position for the start of the second round, in which, it is expected, the four leading teams—Wellington, Kilbirnie, Hutt> and Wellington College Old Boys—will meet one another. As the Basin Reserve and the Petone Oval were not available for cricket on Saturday, the senior matches were concluded at Kelburn Park, and they attracted a large following of spectators,. In one of these matches Wellington, pursuing the same policy as, on the first day, outplayed Institute socompletely as to register an,eight-point win, and this, taking other v results into account, gave them a clear lead of eight points into the second round.. As: was indicated in "The Post" a fortnight ago, Wellington with a lead of three runs on the first innings for the loss of six wickets closed the-innings. In setting out' to dispose of Institute cheaply again in the second innings they met with immediate success, and maintained the upper hand, Blundell being in great form with the ball. Institute failed with the bat, and Wellington bad an easy win by ten wickets, Morgan giving a fine display of free and forceful batting for Wellington. In the other match at Kelburn, Petone at one stage made a strong-bid- to save the day- againstKilbirnie, the principals in this effort being Dempster and Roberts, who were associated in ' a splendid fourth-wicket stand. Dempster added another century to his long list. Apart from the two mentioned, the Petone batsmen did not offer much resistance, and Crook gained a good bag of wickets. Midland showed superiority over University at the Kilbirnie Reserve, Baker coming to light with a big three-figure score, and being well supported by Standidge and others. University, who" collapsed in the-second innings after Midland had "declared," were saved by time from an outright defeat. Cleverley bowled splendidly for Midland. Wellington College Old Boys held their grip on the game with Hutt at the Hutt Recreation Ground, although Hatt made an improved showing in the second innings. Burnette made a fine score for Old Boys, and Ross and Warnes played valuable hands for Hutt. McCann and Judd did some good bowling for Hutt.

The following are the results of the matches:— . . ,

. Wellington, 125 for six wickets (declared) and 107 for no wickets, defeated Institute, 122 and 106—an outright win. Kilbirnie, 373, defeated Petone, 262, on the first innings.
