SATURDAY'S CARNIVAL
Although favoured by good weather, the Worser Bay Amateur Swimming and Lifesaving Club was unfortunate on Saturday afternoon in that its twenty-third annual carnival did not get the public patronage an attractive programme deserved. The lacing throughout was interesting, the finishes being close. J. Blakeley won his third Wellington championship this season when he scored a comfortable win in the 100 yards event, putting up the best time recorded,- in a Wellington Centre championship. The relay championship for the handsome and Hall Cup was won by Maranui, who established a fresh record. Results:— 50 Yards Jnterclub , Handicap.—First heat: B. Mclvor (2see), 1,- J. Deck (ssec). 2. The four got away together, and at the turn Plank was half a yard in front of Blakeley. The latter gradually forged to the front, and sprinting twenty yards from \ the finish, won comfortably by two yards. Wellington and Maranui were disqualified for not swimming tho correct breaststroke. Walker and Hall Flying Squadron Relay Championship, 500 yards, teams •of five men (previous holders, Lyall Bay).—Maranui (A. de Costa, I. McHariiy, D. Plank, C. EversleiKh, C. Claridge) 1, Wellington 2, Lyall Bay 3. .Time, omin 16 3-ssec —a record. Maranui took the lead from the start, but Clark, swimming third for Wellington, made up the leeway, j Plank recovered the advantage, and Claridgc! retained it over the final lap. winning by three yards. The Individual times for each 100 yards were: Kversleigh 6Gsec, de Costa 01 4-ssec, McHardy 64 4-osec. Plank 62sec, Claridge 62sec. The time established a new record, beating the .previous best, smln ISsec, swum by Leask, Rix-Trott, Blakeley, Watson, and Patterson, of the Wellington Club, in 1927. 100 Yards Interclub Handicap.—First heat: B.
