GIRL PINNED AGAINST WALL
SEVERE INJURIES
DUNEDIN, 10th February.
An unusual accident of a distressing character occurred in Moray place this afternoon, as the result of which a high school girl was admitted to hospital and placed on the dangerously ill list. A motor-car parked parallel with the kerb opposite the Public Trust Office ran backward, jumped the footpath on the other side of the road, and pinned the girl against the wall of the Kodak Company's building.
The injured girl was Tui Eutherford, aged 16 years, who resides with her parents at Port Chalmers, and she received severe head injuries as well as laceration of the right leg. The car was left by its owner, Mr. A. W. Douglas, of Waikouaiti, on a rise outside First Church with the handbrake full on. A short time "later when he returned his car had disappeared.
An eye-witness of the accident said he saw the car jump the kerb, going backward, and saw it strike the girl, pinning her against the wall..
When taken to the hospital the girl was still conscious and her condition is regarded as serious.
