NGAIO GARDEN CLUB
ANNUAL EXHIBITION
The Ngaio Town Hall looked very gay on Saturday last when th Ngaio Garden Club staged its annual flower and vegetable show.
In opening the show, Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P., congratulated the club on the result of its work and on the beauty and extent of the exhibits. It was good to see, he sjid, such a love for gardening in a community, especially at a time when many people had more leisure thau was desired. Such lack of occupation might become & danger, but to those who loved gardening a large amount of leisure could never be harmful.
In spite of the bad weather the number of entries exceeded last year's total by 50 per cent., while those in the vegetable sections far exceeded all space allotted to them. In the flower sections the decorated baskets were especially beautiful, and in the non-competitive exhibits from private gardens were numerous exotics rarely shown in New Zealand. Remarkable excellence characterised the entries in the home industries sections, both adult and juvenile, so that judging was a real difficulty. In the trade displays a beautiful collection of rock plants and herbaceous perennials by Messrs. Evans and Sawyer and a'stand of exquisite begonias shown by Mr. Johnston, of Karori, attracted' much attention. Honey in the comb and in jars was exhibited by Mr. Huxtable, of Ngaio.
