SWIMMING
At Te Aro Baths to-morrow afternoon the Worser Bay Swimming and Life-saving Club- are staging tbeir annual carnival. An excellent programme has been arranged and good entries have been received. The programme includes the 100 yards Wellington Centre championship, the 500 yards Walker and Hall flyiug squardon relay of five men a-side, the inter-club breaststroke banner, and also the popular relayrace, Worser Bay veterans v. present-day members. In the 100 yards championship J. Blakeley will have to be at his best to retain his title, as Claridge, Fookes, Clark, Plank, and others are all swimming -well. In the Walker and Hall event four local clubs—Hutt, Wellington, Lyall Bay, and Maranui—are evenly matched, and excitement should prevail from start to finish. Several teams have entered for the breaststroke banner, including one from llasterton. In the club's veteran relay race the public will have an opportunity of again seeing some of the old-time favourites in action. There are Harry Silver the Green brothers, Bill Lavelle, Frank Wilton, and Vie. Allan. The last-named will during the afternoon swim in his thousandth race, an event he has been looking forward to. The programme will conclude with a polo match, Wellington representatives who leave for Napier next week playing the nest best. The chib has arranged extra seating accommodation and are looking forward to a record attendance. Popular prices are being charged. The V.M.C.A. Swimming Club held a handicap race over 150 yards at the Te Aro Baths last evening. The result was as follows:—B. .Harewood (1 sec), I; K. Osborne (scr), 2; G. Hall (4sec), 3.
