CIVIL SERVICE SPORTS
The swimming events in the Civil Service interdepartmental sports tournament were continued at Te Aro Baths last evening. The races contested were the. ladies' and men's 100 yards handicaps. ." The ladies' event resulted in a dead-heat, Miss Whitcombe (Marine Department) tieing for first place with Miss Burns (Public Trust Office). The- following are the results of the men's event:—First heat: F. G. Ryan (Post and Telegraph Department); time, lmin 10 sec. Second heat: N. Lincoln, (Post and Telegraph Department); time, lmin 7 1-5 sec. Third heat: J.L. Sale (Post and Telegraph Department); time,;lmin 13sec. The final, for which nine competitors qualified, was keenly contested, and proved an excellent race. W. G. Pickering, the Eailway Department's entrant; won by inches from F. G. Kyan (Post and Telegraph Department): G. Williams, another member of the Post and Telegraph Department's team, filled third place. Time, lmin 8 l-ssec. > The points to date for the Ward Memorial Challenge Trophy are as follows:— Public Trust Office, 15 points; MarineCustoms Department* 9; itailway Department, 9; Post and Telegraph Department, 5.' The ladies' 50 yards breaststroke, the men's 200 yards relay race, and the men's diving competitions will be contested next Wednesday.
