DIVING FATALITY
SWIMMER'S NECK BROKEN

CHEISTCHUECH, 7th February
When diving in the Waimakariri Kiver to-day, John Sewell Devan, aged 19, of Upper Biccarton, struck an obstruction and broke his neck. He was dead when his body was recovered shortly afterward. Mr. Devan, who was bathing with a companion, dived into the water and did not reappear. The companion went for help to tho police station, but when he returned Mr. Devan's body had already been recovered by three men.
