RAILWAY WAGE CUTS
MINIMUM ACCEPTED
MEN TO MEET NEW PHASE
(Received 19th January, 8 a.m.)
LONDON, 17th January.
The railway companies have caused surprise by accepting the Morris recommendations, although they fall far short, in their view, of the merits of the case. The recommendations decrease all wages 4 1-6 per cent., with a further similar reduction when, the pay exceeds 50s weekly. The cut- is inoperative for adults' pay under 40s weekly and also will not reduce pay below 40s.
The Operatives' Union executives' meeting will consider the new situation.
