ROSEBERY INITIATES
NEW ORDER IN SYDNEY
■ (From "Vedette."). SYDNEY, 12th January. Only that Sydney racing is at present in the process of reorganisation, it might be said that .the period is exceptionally quiet. Next Tuesday entries cloae for the Newmarket Handicap and Australian Cup, and the Doncaster Handicap and Sydney Cup, after which there may be a little more life. There is a. meeting at Randwick on Saturday week, but neither the Challenge Stakes nor the Anniversary Handicap has been mentioned yet. The first mid-week meeting under . the new A.J.C. government was held yesterday at Rosebery. Owing to short notice few of the recognised registered horses were entered, and it was in reality an .all-height and pony meeting. Next Wednesday at Victoria Park will see the real test, and a huge nomination list is expected. In the-palmy days there was once a 17-event programme at Victoria Park, the origin of the sketch of the pyjama-clad man greeting the milkman with "What won the Bret?" Yesterday. at Rostebery many, prominent racing men made their first acquaintance with a formerly unregistered course. Mr. George Rbwe represented the A.J.C., and Mr. G. F. Wilson, the A.J.C. handicapper, was also studying the form. Most of the leading paddock bookmakers.from Randwick were operating in an enlarged betting ring. . . ■ ■ 'Of the few A.J.C. horses competing; Gippaland won, but Hampton • Plane, a stablemate, would have won only for interference, which cost .the-1 former regis-

tered rider, Ai Stan ton, three months' suspension. In fact, the senior steward, Mr. L. >G. Frazer, had a busy day, sending out three boys for three months, all for interference. Mr. Frazer had acting' with him the former A.R.C. stewards, Messrs. Turner and Donohoe. .
