I In comparison with other cities Welling-! ton's footpaths are a disgrace. Dogs- are' allowed to wander at liberty while: their, j owners are riot the least concerned about' the pollution. Surely our City .Council.! can do something to abate the nuisance?,)' Wellington is now too big a city to allo-ir, • this disgrace to continue. To lessen the i evil I suggest (1): that dogs on the street { should be held on leash; (2) that the'.dog^ tax be raised so that the number would 1 be lessened.—l am, etc., ' . ;

On the same subject "Victoria"-writes:"? "At last someone has had theicburage ,to | write to the "Post" on the cleanliness -of/ the streets, and the dog nuisance. All I ■ wish to say is that if there is a. dirtier ■ street in Wellington than Majoribanks street then tell me of it. It is the despair of the residents, and a disgrace to the council. Last Thursday the men were up with the carts to clean the gutters. On Friday another batch came to clean up tha footpaths. The weeds were then heaped, in little mounds quite near the gutters where they have lain, and I suppose will lie, till Thursday comes again. Who is responsible for this mismanagement,, and. is it any wonder that our rates :are high?'*
