LATE SPORTING

SYDNEY TURF NOTES

G. yOUNG'S^ BAD LUCK

(From. "Vedette.") SYDNEY, 10th January. Biggish fields of indifferent horses characterised the Canterbury 'Park Meeting on Saturday, and had any of the New Zealanders stayed on for the present race ; meetings they could have had field days. T. Webster, who returned from Melbourne last week, had one unsuccessful ride on N.E.F., who was not fancied. Webster, jun., is likely to commence later as a trainer in Sydney, for increased weight has ended his career as a jockey. \ ' Havaspot battled on' well to finish fourth with 10.3 in a nine-furlong welter. The course was all against him, for he was hopelessly placed early, and that is. fatal on the sihall Canterbury track. ■ ■ : - - George Young, who trains Havaspot, also had the ill-fortune to finish second in the two-year-old .race with; Cosmetic, and. in a diyision of the "Maiden Hanr. dicap with Baltimore. Both were ridden by McCarten, who had an unprofitable day. ' P. Eiddle has had a useful addition, to his team in Satmoth, a former companion of .Peter Pan and Denis Boy. Satmoth is of similar class to Denis Boy as regards placing for facing, w.hich was the main, reason for. the change: Lavington's recent soreness has been traced to a knee, and H. B. Lorigan. is having him treated. Forestry continues to do useful work. ;'
