MR. W. A. WATERS

An old. and well-known Wellington identity, Mr. William Alfred Waters, died in tho Wellington. Hospital early this morning at the age of 81 years. The late Mr. Waters was born in Wellington in 1851, and in his younger days was a member of the staffs of the legal firms of Moorhouse and Stafford, Barton and Fitzherbert, Travers and Olliver, and Buckley, Stafford, and Fitzherbert. Afterwards, Mr. Waters was, for twelve years/employed as a-clerk in the Legislative Council, and subsequently he joined the Lands and Deeds Department. He retired on superannuation in 1909. In 1908 Mr. Waters was seriously injured in a motor-car accident, and he never really recovered from his injuries. After his retirement from the Government service he lived for a number of years in Auckland, returning two years ago to Wellington. He was an original member of the Choral Society, a member of the Wellington Operatic Society, the Early Settlers' Association, the original D Battery, and for just on thirty years he was associated with the choirs of St. Peter's and St. Mark's Churches. The late Mr. Waters's first wife died in 1890. He leaves a widow, two sons, Messrs. V. H. and A. W. Waters, of Wellington, a daughter, Mrs. Charles Blackwell, of Auckland, eleven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. There are two brothers, Messrs. F. Waters, Nelson, and E. Waters, Timarn, and a sister, Mrs. Mitchell, Melbourne. The funeral will'take'place at 10.30 a.m. on Monday, leaving from the mortuary chapel of Isaac Clark and Son. I
