GOLD AND PAPER MONEY

CANADA'S NOTE COYER

NO ABANDONMENT

(Received 24th November, 11. a.m.) OTTAWA, 23rd November.

Canada has no intention of abandoning gold coverage for its paper money, Mr. B. B. Bennett announced in the House of Commons on Wednesday. Since 1929 Canada has technically not been on the gold standard, but covers with gold its notes. Canada has a statutory 25 per cent, coverage for the first 50 million dollars in Dominion notes and dollar for dollar coverage above that. This coverage will be maintained. '
