TALENTED CHILDREN
RECITAL FOR CHARITY
The annual recital by.the pupils of Miss Zena Jupp, L.T.C:L., was given before an appreciative audience in the Concert Chamber last evening, when Miss Jupp displayed much talent in producing and staging. The recital was different in form from the usual elocutionary evening, the introduction of a musical play into the well-assorted programme being a great success,, and the costuming charming. During- the" interval Mr. Ritchie read a message from the Rev. Feild.en Taylor,who sent his appreciation- to Miss Jupp for her aid m devoting the proceeds of her recital to his "Christmas Cheer Fund." .■■-;■■■ ■ ■ ..
The' musical play, "The Magic Pea- ' \7^ S cx Pe!'tlv arranged, some of tho children being very young "Kate" (Gweu Mac Donald), "Emma" (Joan AVatt), and "Dan" (Paul Tanner) ate the magic peanut, and brought to'life the people in 'the posters— " Azais," the magician (lan Lowe), "Princess Olga" (Ethel Sumner), and "Prince- Florizel" (Alex Elton). The part of Florizel's jester was played efficiently by Alfred Wilkinson, and of "Titania," the Fairy Queen, by Audrey Lawsoii. Titania's dainty fairies were Nola MacDougall, Margaret Cranston, Nola Josling, Mavis Cox, Winnie. Hickling, Joan Ritchie, Zelma Mextcd, and Margaret Milligan. Tho loyal soldiers of "Azais" wero'Billy Borrell,. Colin Mexted, Dod Coltes, Keith Gourlay, Ronnie Ritchie, f Jack Milligan, and the very small drummerboy, Graham Coates. ■
Another fairy-tale tastefully produced was "Curds and Whey," telling^ the story of little "Miss Muffett" (Mavis Cox), with "King Duff" (Alfred Wilkinson), and "Queen Muff" (Muriel Motcalfe). The four princes were, "Superbus" (Paul. Tanner), "Absu'rdus" (Margaret AVallace), "Trott" (Emily Pearson), and "Feste" (Winnie Hickling). The spider was Jack Milligan, and the two small pages Billy, Berrell and Colin "Mexted.
An amusing one-act farce, "Unexpected," was played by the more- advanced students, tho parts being taken by Misses S. Walker, K. Campbell. J. Merwood, D. Saunders, and Mr.'i' C. Poppleton. Other items included-reci-tations by Miss Gwen Mac Donald" and Miss Zcna Goldstein, character! recital by Miss Joan Raine, musical monologues by _ Miss Doreen Saunders, and an eccentric dance by Miss Joan. Raine. Tho overtures were played by the Working Men's Club Orchestra, and Miss Phillips was accompanist.
