THE LOCAL POSITION
KILLING NEXT WEEK
1 It was stated authoritatively to-day that, according to present indications, the Wellington Meat Export Company's works at-Ngahauranga would probably commence killing some time next week. If- the former employees .did not turn up to work when- invited, free labour would be engaged. A similar statement was made on behalf of the Gear Meat Company. ' ■Normally the \ *Ngahauranga and Petone works employ about one hundred slaughtermen each.
The only overseas vessel loading at Wellington to-day for Home was the Norfolk, on which general cargo was handled by the waterside workers. The date of her departure for London has not yet been fixed, pending the decision of the watersiders' meeting tomorrow morning on the question of handling frozen meat.
