CITY MILK SUPPLY
PRICE STABILISATION
CLAUSE TOO WIDE"
Considerable discussion, took place at the monthly meeting of the executive of the "Wellington Eatepayers1' Association on clause 8 of the "Wellington City Empowering Bill. This clause provides for the establishment of a selling price stabilisation reserve fund in connection with the accounts of the "Wellington | city milk supply undertaking, and it was held by members of the association that the clause was much too wide in its possible application, and that there was the danger of a too large reserve being built up at the expense of the consumer. / ■.•'■'
Members expressed the opinion that such a reserve needed limitation, otherwise in a few years milk funds would be raided by a hard-put-to City Council as electric light funds have been raided. The matter was referred to, a legislative sub-committee with power to act.'
It was reported that there had been great variation in the quality of the city milk during the past few months. After discussion it was decided to refer the matter to the general manager of the department for- his- consideration.
The Milk Department accounts also came up for discussion, and it was decided to appoint a sub-committee to bring before .subsequent.', .meetings "a digest, of the Milk Department accounts and the various other departmental accounts. It was suggested that in this: way members- would become better acquainted with the finances of the city.
