ECONOMIC PROBLEMS
COMMITTEE PEOPOSED
MOVE BY MR. HOLLAND
In the House of Representatives this afternoon, the Leader of the Opposition. ( Mr. H. E. Holland) gave notice ot his intention to move that a Special Committee representative of all sections of the House should be set up to inquire into the most effective mean's of meeting the existing economic difficulties, and that such Committee take into consideration the following: 1. Restoration and stabilisation of purchasing power. 2. Guaranteed prices. 3. Baising of incomes for farmers and wage-earners employed and unemployed. 4. Exchange rates. 5. Effective utilisation and organisation of currency and credit. 6. Bounty, subsidy, or bonus to primary producers. 1 7. Establishment of moratorium. , The Committee to report to the House within fourteen days. The Prime .Minister (the Eight 'Hon G. W. Forbes) informed Mr. Holland that whether it would be possible to provide facilities for consideration of the motion to-morrow would depend on the business that was before the House. Owing to an error, a remark by the Mayor at yesterday's meeting to protest against an increase in the exchange rate was made to read that a bonus on exports would put on the community an additional loan of 45 millions. The statement should have read 4 to 5 millions. . ...
