A well-attended meeting of the AVai-nui-o-omata Women's Institute was held in the Public Hall recently. The coming Dominion Exhibition was discussed, and stewards appointed. Miss Drummond was selected to be exhibition officer. . Arrangements were also made for a children's Christmas party.
The speaker and demonstrator for the after, Mr. Isaac, spoke interestingly on rugs and carpets, mentioning the costly and beautiful Persian carpets, one especially that had taken over forty years to make; also the lovely .carpets made in Ireland, many of which were in use at Buckingham Palace. He next showed how to.make and ;weave on a frame rugs in soft dainty shades? Miss Roskrudge gave some clever, ideas for using odd pieces of materials.
Two competitions were held, one for Victorian posies, the- exhibits showing some artistic blending of the flowers. Mrs.- White- was the winner and Mrs. Dick second. A silhouette competition was judged by Mr. Roskriidge, Mrs. Haddy gaining the first place with a beautiful specimen, and Mrs. Len Wood second. Mrs. Roskrudge was presented with some lovely roses. A delicious tea was served, the hostesses being Mesdames White-Walker and Apperley, and Miss White. This very enjoyable meeting closed with a vote Of thanks, proposed by the president (Mr. Len Wood) to Mrs. Roskrudg'e and Mr. Isaac. "*■""■ '-■'•■'-•.
