CHRISTMAS BOX FOR
TAXPAYERS
(To the Editor.)
£f£? the unemP>oynient funds are in a healthy state" owing to the high rate which has been extracted from the wage earners and others, and as the unemployed are to receive two weeks wa°-es tor no work, is it not a fair thing for the powers that be to similarly suspend the wages tax for a week at Christmas and a .week-in the New Year? The effect would be magical. All would celebrate a happy Christmas as I think it is crystal clear everyone would either shout for himself or someone else with the little windfall received and consequently the boom wouldstart. The Government would get some °f it-back in income tax, and would*be afforded an excellent opportunity of seeing that one of the main' factors of the depression is the people's fear and reluctance^ to spend. : There is plenty of money in the country, but it is held. I trust ail who can will take this matter up and:use their influence ,to push the idea to a successful conclusion.—l am, etc;, " .-
