TWENTY-SIX SIGNATURES

NO CABINET MEMBERS

It was ascertained to-day that twentysix supporters of the Coalition signed the memorial favouring an immediate increase in the exchange rate to 25 per cent. This document is to be presented to the Associated Banks, who desired to know the strength of the high exchange movement.

The memorial does not contain the signatures of members of Cabinet, or those of four Coalitionists who, although endorsing the proposals, were not prepared to commit their views to writing. The members in question are Messrs. A. M. Samuel (Thames), J. A. Macphcrs.on (Oamaru), P. -'McSkimming (Clutha), and E. F. Healy (Wairau). This would leave'ten'supporters of the Government to be accounted for, and of these five have expressed their, open hostility to tho proposal.'
