ADMIRATION FOR AMY
MERCHANT'S £1000 GIFT
MANY CONGRATULATIONS
(Received 19th November, 1 pan.)' ) LONDON, ISth November^ " Mr. A. E. "Whitelaw, a Melbourne merchant, has given Amy Johnson £1000 in recognition of her performance.
Captain Brpad describes the feat as the most magnificent any airwoman has yet achieved. Costes, the French champion, says that it would be fine for a man, but still finer for a woman, though, there is no reason why a woman, whom he places on an equal footing, should not emulate the male aviator.
Amy used Aeronautical Association maps previously supplied to her husband. -
Congratulatory cables have been sent by Lords Londonderry and Wakefield, the Aeronautical Society, and Captain Hope, the King's Cup winner.
