According to the forecast issued at noon to-day the weather is expected to be unsettled and squally, with rain at times in most districts, and some heavy falls in those with a wosterly aspect. Moderate to strong northerly to westerly winds- are predicted, reaching gale force at many places and backing to south-westerlies within tho next 24 to ,'<6 hours. The anticyclone which, dominated the meteorological situation during most of the week has; at last passed off New Zealand, and its place has been taken by a Tather intense westerly depression. Yesterday, was fair to fin© in most districts, but in consequence of the approach of the depression, the winds, freshened, and since last night strong to squally northerlies to westerlies hay? been blowing generally, and Tain has fallen in the. western ana southernmost districts of the South Island. Some scattered falls have also occurred on the West Coast of the North. Island south' of Kawhia. It was still fair, however, this morning in most of the East Coast districts, although there has been an increase in cloud, particularly on the East Coast of the South Island where a south-westerly was prevailinp- at places. .
