narrowly beaten by the' Derby fourth h°l?vTout le Mond, whom hf was coceding 221b. On the final day he went an excellent race into fifth place in the Metropolitan Handicap, one mile and a half. i He is bred along staying lines, and he has given every indication of developing shortly into one of the Dominion's best distance horses. He: is a four-year-old gelding by Australian Sun (sire. of Glare and In the Shade) from the Malster mare Red Wheat. To date he has not done much racing, because his owner-trainer has desired to allow him every chance. He' started only once as a two-year-old, and last season he raced a dozen times for two wins and a second. ;
Normandy, who is owned by the president of the Racing Conference, Mr. 0 S' VVatkins, is the five-year-old half-brother by Arausio to Anomaly and Shirley, ,so there is little need to comment on his pretensions to class among the sprinters. He accompanied Red Sun to Riccarton, but his only race was in the Stewards' Handicap, in which he was up in second place behind Autopay at the straight entrance, and finished a close fifth alongside Arrow Lad, not much more than two lengths from the winner (Cadland). A bruised heel prevented his later production, but he ■has made a quick recovery and was out doing steady pacing at Trentham yesterday morning.:
