HAWKES BAY'S TOUR

MATCH WITH WELLINGTON

Prior ,to the playing of the Plunket Shield series this season, Wellington, will have .a cricket engagement ,with Hawkes Bay's touring team, and there will also be the annual match, Town v. Country. The match -with Hawkes Bay is to bo.played at the Basin Ee-| servo on Tuesday and Wedriesdayi week, the 29th. and 30th November, af-1 ter which the visitors will proceed to the South Island to play matches with Canterbury, Otagb, and North Otago. Already oleven players have boen j chosen for the tour, and the remaining two places are to be filled at the conclusion of the Wairarapa-Hawkes Bay matete in-Napier to-day. . The touring team is to be captained by F. Finlaysbn, who played formerly in-South Australia^ and other members chosen are: —I M. E. Beuth, B. Barlow, L. V. Browne (formerly of Wellington), B. Elliott, H. E. Ellis, O. Fitzwater, B, J. Mahony, H. Nairn,-M." A. O'Brien, and H, E. I. Eeaney. Those not available for the tour are: —Turvey (formerly of Wellington), Evans, T. P. Eeauey-, G. G. Brown, and-W. A. Beck. Mr." M. MacLeod, hon. secretory of the Hawkes Bay pricket Association, will be- the team's manager. ; .....' In view ofxthe match with Hawkes Bay, the Wellington, selectors, Messrs. W. A. Aldersley, L. T. Cobcrof t, aid K. C. James, should be making an early announcement of their choice of players. Chosen on form shown so far this season, the team would differ a goOd deal from that which represented Wellington in last season's matches. However, it is not that Wellington's Shield team will be brought to light in tho match with Hawkes Bay, which will j be used, no doubt, to try out some of the colts and also as an acceptable preliminary for some of .the players who are certain to be wanted for the Shield matches. The team against Hawkes Bay is expected to be purely a town eleven. Some country aspirants for places in Wellington's Piunket Shield team will be seen with Hawkes Bay; others will be brought forward in the Town-Country match, next month.
