COMMERCIAL ACTS

PROTECTION TO PUBLIC

MR. COATES'S ASSURANCE

Advising his intention to go into the matter of reconstituting the Board of Trade Act, Commercial Trusts Act, and Cost of Living Act, in a communication received by the Associated Chambers of Commerce yesterday, the Eight Hon. J. G. Coates said he was pleased to repeat his assurance that in his opinion such clauses as might be considered detrimental to the welfare of the community would be very seriously, reviewed.

It might well be, ho said, that a consolidation of all the enactments complained of, preserving those clauses which were essential, would be the most satisfactory way of reviewing the matter. He would be pleased to take the matter up with' his colleague, the Prime Minister, on the first suitable opportunity.

Mr. Coates said he regretted that he was not able to be. present at the deputation recently received by tho Prime Minister on the subject. The importance of giving confidence to the business community : compatible with the interest of the community as a whole was never more important than it was to-day. '
