"A GLORIFIED DINGHY"
SANDERS CUP BOAT
SIMPLER DESIGN FAVOURED
• (By Telegraph.—Press Association). . CHRISTCHURCH, 16th Nov. Measurements of boats for the Sanders Cup contest were discussed at a meeting of the Canterbury Sailing and Power Boat Association this evening. Letters were received from the Auckland and Otago associations and the Stewart Island Yacht Club, agreeing to the Canterbury proposal that boats built either to the new or the old moulds, or both, should be eligible for the Sanders Cup contest. A letter was received from the Otago association suggesting that the design of the boat for the contests was not satisfactory, and was jeopardising the contest. The Otago Association advocated a simpler and cheaper design, suggesting an 18-foot V-bottoin type of boat.
Several -speakers agreed that the Jellicoe class boat was '' only a glorified dinghy," and useless apart from racing. It was finally decided to defer further discussion until the next Dominion conference, but the association was agreed that the type of boat should be altered.
After discussion, a proposal to form a Dominion eouiK-il to control the Sanders Cup and .. Jier inter-provincial races which might be established in future was approved. It was decided that tho Canterbury association should ask the other associations to appoint delegates to the conference to be held at the time of the Sanders Cup for the purpose of discussing the formation of a national governing body.
