ADELAIDE VICTORY
COMMENT IN BRITAIN
LONDON, 10th November.
Editorially reviewing the Adelaide victory,' the "Manchester, Guardian" praises the batsmen's form, but says: "The match raises ..disturbing, questions. Larwood and'Bowes both more or less failed, and it is especially disquieting to find Larwood so early again liable to physical injury. Slow, leftarm bowling, no matter how finely Verity supplies it, cannot bo expected to win the .rubber - against Bra'dman and'Woodfull on hard grounds. Bngiland must play the climate in addition to the world's most cock-a-hoop erieketerß."'■-'"'■-.."■ ■•.■'■■ ' •■'■-■ ■~ . ■
, The "Evening Standard" says: "It is pleasant to be reassured about our batting strength," but the uncertain quantity has been our bowling, in re-gard-to which the South Australian innings has done nothing to raise confidence. Ponsford already has prac-. tieally disposed of the suggestion that his skill has deteriorated. Indeed, the form of most of Australia's, established players is so good that there will be little room in tho tests for the newer men." :: . ".'■ v
The. ."Daily Telegraph," in an editorial, 'expresses satisfaction that the problem of an opening pair for the M.C.C. has been settled. "There is reasonable hope," it says, "that the Suteliffe-Leyland partnership . will maintain the old tradition. ,It has the great advantage of being composed' of a right-handed and a left-handed batsman, and therefore will be able, through; a long stand, to prevent the bowlers and fieldsmen settling down. Evidently also the pair have developed perfect judgment and understanding in "inning between wickets."
