GILLIGAN'S VIEW

SLOW BOWLERS' SUCCESS

UTMOST IMPORTANCE

LONDON, 10th November. Writing in the "News-Chronicle," A. E. E. Gilligan states:—"The early success of Verity and Brown is of the utmost importance. If I were Jardine^, I shouldn't look further for slow bowlers in the Tests. ' ■

"I can now divulge that when tho selectors were. choosing the team for Australia. Jardine intimated that he had the strongest faith in Verity's success, and his judgment has already been vindicated. Last year I emphasised that Brown's spin bowling was eminently [suited for Australia.''

, In another article,- Gilligan expresses the opinion that the first lesson of the M.C.C. team on tour in Australia is that it is the finest batting side that has ever left England, but the bowling is still weak.
