LETTING OF CONTRACTS
Mr. Pi Trasei- (Labour, Wellington Central!) asked the Prime Minister in the Hou s« of Representatives yesterday af tempo a whether any explanation could b{» given regarding the recent defalcati ona in the High Commissioner's Office, Li ondon. The Pl'-ime Minister * (the Eight Hon. G-. W. Fi >rbes) replied that a case had been tak en against two officials, but other than that he had no information.
Mr. Fr. aser also asked tho Government who f.her the Stores Control Board was respo nsiblo for the letting of all contracts. The Minister of Public Works was! chairman of the board. He would like to know what practice was followed in. regard to benzine and oil contracts. Did the board deal with them, or didl. Cabinet?
The Mirasitor of Public Works (the Eight Hon. J. G. Coates) replied that ,all contracts were handled by the board, including oit and benzine contracts. They went too Cabinet for confirmation.
