Elgar, and subsequently by Mrs. E. Elgar, Grecian, who is now' sis years old, gave j a lot" of promise. As a three and four- j year-old he won several races attractively, and he was not long in leaving hack ranks behind. His last successes were a double—the Otaio Plate and the Cressy Handicap—at the 1930 New Zealand Cup Meeting, in both of which events he beat excellent fields. He has raced only three times in the Dominion since these Eiccarton performances. . ■, ■

He is a brown gelding by Lord . Quex from Ennea, by Demosthenes from Kilworth, by Gold Reef from imported Kilmorey. , The family has* not been very conspicuous on the New Zealand Turf, but Kilmorey left Cyrenierino, who threw a rattling good horse in Oxenhope. Grecian's trainer, {W. D. Moroney, always held a high opinion of him, and when his patron's thoroughbreds were sold fifteen months ago he carried the bidding to 200 guineas to secure him. Grecian has not made a penny's worth o£ return yet.
