CUP TRIAL MEETING
A splendid response has been made by owners to the call for nominations,for the Wellington Trotting Club's Cup Trial Meeting. For the star item, the New Zear land Cup Trial, the stake for. which was increased to £300, 14 of the best pacers in commission have been entered, including nine of the 12 New Zealand Cup candidates. The principal two-mile event, the October Handicap, has 20 horses engaged; while the open sprint, the Electric Handicap, has drawn a nomination of 18, The two events for straight-out trotters have' fields of 13 and 11 engaged respectively, while' the novice and improvers' events have drawn large nominations.
j The' leading southern stables have repponded liberally, noticeable entries being J.-S. Shaw's team ot five—Mr. Penalty, Fairyland, Donum, Great - Parrish, and I Baron Bingen; while J.'Bryce has seven nominated—Eed Shadow, Eoyal . Silk, Match King, Stanley Bingen, Herod, Little Victor, and Bingen Wrack. W. J. Tomkinson has .four engaged, including the much-discussed Derby candidate,' Indianapolis. Another large team engaged is that of D. Withers, which includes Kingcraft, Eegal Voyage, Editor, King's Voyage, and Plain Silk. M. B. Edwards's team of four includes the Wellington-owned Craganour, who has been racing brilliantly in the South. North Island stables are also free--ly engaged, entries having been received from as far north as ■ Cambridge- and Hawera, so that indications point tor a most interesting day's trotting 'for Wellington followers of the sport.
