FINAL GALLOPING DONE

J Candidates for the Masterton and Wellington Meetings tad. perfect conditions for galloping at Trehtham this morning aha several serviceable trials were registered. ■ The'-outside of the course proper was available, and it provided excellent - going, a shade faster than on Tuesday. The -morning was dead caliu. ■Red Sun (W. E. Shand) allowed Golden Horn (G. IV Dick) several lengths' start from the mile post, but caught him. in the Btraight and beat him home by a couple of lengths. He ran the mile in even time; 52see for each half. "White Squall (E. G. Bush) sprinted three furlongs in 38 2-ssec.. Foghorn (Dick) -and Capetown (Bush) did an easy six furlongs in lmin 23sec. Teastream worked over a mile at half pace. Normandy (W. E. Rainbow), after standing Moab Queen (Shand) up a start of from four to six- lengths, -was on terms with the mare at the end of sis furlongs. His time for the distance was lmin 16 3-ssec, the last half-mile in 49'3-ssee, an excellent gallop. Moab Queen's time for the six was lmin-18 l-'ssec. Milnrow (J. Gunn) and Solitaire H (D. W. Bush) ran. from the mile to the three furlongs post in lmin 4 2-ssec after.taking 51 2-ssec for the first halfmile. Platter (A. Leach) did pacing and trotting on the two-year-old.track, sprinting the final furlong. Cape Paraki (Dick) and Miss Beatrice (Gunn) finished together at .the end :of six f uilongs in lmin 19 3-ssec, the last half-mile in 54f l-ssec. Cape Pafaki was.two or three lengths clear a furlong out, but was then eased, and the : mare caught him. , ■..•■-, Araios (Bush) slipped over the last half-mile of nearly five furlongs in 50 2-ssec. Bright Song (Bush) ran five furlongs in lmin 7 l-ssec, the last halfmile in 53 l-ssec, and Lyrical (S. Wilson) did a like task lazily in lmin. 7 3-ssee, the final half-mile in 53 -d-Ssec. . fraymela (Shand)'* accepted a two lengths' start from Aroma (Dick) at the five furlongs, and, after the filly had ranged up alongside him half-way down the straight, drew away again to beat her home by a couple of lengths. Hiß time for the five -was lmin 4 2-5 see, the last half-mile in 50 3-ssee. He finished on better than he has ever previously done. Vivette (A. Jenkins). ■ was ■ responsible for the best short effort of the morning in running half a mile alone in 49 2-ssec> a good trial indeed with the weight she had to carry. Loveeourt (W.- H. Jones) slipped over three furlongs, in 37sect This three-year-old filly, who. is. by Gainscourt from the Warplane mare Crimson Wing, has recently been taken on lease by the trainer, W. J. Wood. Wood's other horses in work are two two-year-olds, a bay colt by Lord Quex from Polonaise ,(the dam also of Gay Court) and a chestnut colt by Agrion from the Sutala mare Crote (the dam also of Hot Tea). Pahu and Arrowzone were allotted easy pacing only. Pahu is to contest the open handicaps at the Wellington .Meeting in preference -to the hurdles, and he will be ridden by W. E. Shand, ,who will also havo the mount on him jin the New Zealand Cup. , The after-breakfast workers were not seriously seeking times. Gay Court (T. Young) did a working gallop over sis furlongs, and so did Cottesmore (Wilson) and Clangor (Jones), finishing on terms.! Azure (Gunn) ran half a mile in 50sec, and Eminent (Wilson) did a like task in slightly slower time. As on Tuesday, several of the two-year-olds had a race rehearsal down from the half-mile barrier on the course proper. Mr. Hayley-effected an excellent start,' and the experienced Quietly (Gunn) soon showed out in front, and continued- on ;to win ■ the trial comfortably in- 49sec. Epigram (Leach) was second; and 'Pegged Exchange (Dick) third. The other participants were Secrecy (J. K. Bobertson), Palm Queen (Shand), Dover Patrol (Wilson), and Lord Ques-^PolO-naise colt (Jones). ■ ' . H. Pritchard has returned from the South with Flower, Purse, Black Mint, and Royal Game. ■ The first three were out pacing this morning, and all look well, especially Purse. • Royal Game injured hlmselr in^his fall at Geraldine, and has been turned out fora few months' spell.
