MARKET STIMULUS
FOR ALL DOMINIONS
THE CASE OF BUTTER
LONDON, sth February
The Australian Dairy Produce Board is of opinion that the- tariff should result in a market stimulus to all Dominion produce.
Mr. Stapleton, on behalf of the British Dairy Farmers' Association, said that 10 per cent, was too small a levy to exclude dumped foreign butter. It probably would be- found that nothing less than 3d a pound would really be effective, Empire produce being exempted.
Commenting on the British tariff on butter, Mr. C. E. Moares, manager of the Producers' Co-operative Distributing Society, said that the 10 per cent. British preference will mean a great deal to• Australia in view of the fact that £20,000,000 worth of butter will be produced in Australia this season, at least 50 per cent, of which will be exported to Great Britain.
This preference reduced the gap between tho Australian and Danish prices, and will also provide additional stability to the dairying industry.
