COBBLERS BUSY

SMITH FAMILY BOOTS

FIFTEEN HUNDRED .PAIRS

The Smith Family drive for boots, and shoes, slippers, and children's foot-* wear has beenj very successful, and well within a week the collection ha^ totalled over 1500 pairs. The Smiths, through tho Press and through station 2ZW, did not ask for working boots ia particular, but tho public have realised that there lies the greatest need, and though there is a fair proportion of; light footwear, all of which is appreciated, most of that sent in is good serviceable stuff which, after it leaves the cobblers, will be extremely welcome to the men. . , ■

There are thirteen cobblers i work at the old milk de~>ot, busy ■with repairs, and giving probably much greater value to the community than they could as relief workers, which they all were before the plan was put into operation; By the time they have got through the small mountain of work in view repair work will be- coming in from the men. on city relief jobs.

This boot repairing venture is the" first of the permanent Smith ventures and will make the way easier for many, who otherwise would have to carry on. with footwear unrepaired. Women and children who obtain chits from their inter-church committees can obtain the same benefits from-the scheme*
