HUTT VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL
Thes first meeting of the Board of Governors of the Hutt Valley High School for 1932 was held last evening. Present: Mr, D. A. Ewen (acting-chairman) and Messrs. J. C. Burns, W. V. Dyer, 1\ Robertson, J. Kerr, and Captain W. Olphert. The principal (Mr. H. P. Kidson) reported that the roll number was 454, about the same number as last year. Mr. Kidson said that the Education Department had still made, no provision for manual training. There were 250 pupils who under the regulations were required to have manual training. The only place where facilities were at present available was the Petone Technical High School, which was too far away. It was decided to bring the matter under the notice of the Department again.
It was reported that tho gymnasium had been floored.
The principal reported the great difficulty many parents were experiencing in finding text books, the Department having stopped grants for free books. It was decided to make an appeal for the gift of books. •
A protest against the action of the Railway Department in refusing free railway passes, to Korokoro pupils, who could not get the same course afc any other school, was placed on record.
The Marauui Surf and Life Saving Club has been granted a lease of the new club house erected on the beach at Lyall Bay for a term of five years at a peppercorn rental, on conditions laid down by the Director of Parks. '
_ "That any person accepting a free ride in another person's car shall do so only at his or her own risk without any liability on the owner of the car," was a remit carried by the Dominion Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union yesterday.
